Pink / winter 2007
I recently attended a lecture at the Tacoma Art Museum and realized that Matisse, while residing in France, continued to paint through both WWI and II. For the first time I came to understand the magnitude of what it means to find beauty in a somber time. As a painter I feel shocked, privileged, and necessary. At a time when our country is fighting an illegal war, of environmental destruction, and the greed of the privileged driving more people into poverty, I find inspiration to represent growth and optimism.
